The Saint John's Abbey Archives, founded in 1871, is the depository for all official papers of the abbey (e.g., abbatial papers; Chapter, Senior Council, and committee minutes; legal and ecclesiastical documents; financial records; correspondence; and publications). Also included are manuscript histories, letters, diaries, journals, sermons, oral histories, and other memorabilia. Of special interest to researchers are the papers of Father Virgil Michel, OSB, Father Godfrey Diekmann, OSB, and other monks involved in the liturgical movement. The Saint John's University Archives, founded in 1975 is the depository of the offices of Saint John's University, Saint John's Preparatory School, and the Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research. The archives also maintains numerous subject collections, as well as minutes and reports of the Faculty Assembly and the Board of Regents, university and student publications, and other memorabilia.
