Mission Statement

Conscious of our Benedictine tradition of stewardship, the purpose for the ongoing operation of the art and artifacts collections is to gather, catalog, preserve and use for study purposes and public exhibit, art and artifacts which reinforce and further the knowledge of material cultures of the world. A special emphasis is placed on Christian art and artifacts and specifically on those connected with the monastic heritage of St. John's and its related ministries.  In the spirit of ecumenicity the collection is sensitive to art that expresses the philosophy and art forms of other traditions and cultures.
