Five-footed melon-shaped plate (Johanna kiln, Tanegashima chamber), 1998, stoneware, 10 1/2 in. diameter. Bresnahan #99.

Bresnahan created the circular markings on this plate by setting three inverted cups on it during the kiln loading process. Wild rice hulls, heaped around the vessels, caused the slight iridescence during the firing. Photograph by Gary Mortensen.
