Teapot (Johanna kiln, front fire chamber), 1997, stoneware with natural ash glaze, 7 1/8 in. high. Bresnahan #87.

Reed handle by Paul Krueger. Although influenced by traditional Asian forms, Bresnahan freely experiments to improve them functionally and aethetically. The downturned spout of this teapot prevents drips, while the small feet and thinly potted bottom help cool the tea leaves after the initial brewing so they can be infused for a second and third time. The handle, woven by sculptor Paul Kreuger, is far sturdier than ceramic ones, which can easily chip and break. Photograph by Gary Mortensen.
